NEWS FLASH: being yourself is not overrated
the other day in paideia we had a discussion about the poem “we wear the mask” and one kid brought up the question of whether if you wear a mask all the time, do you eventually become the mask and then you’re not really wearing a mask at all because you’re being yourself. bull. total bull. you can’t become someone you’re not. you can get so good at hiding yourself that you can’t tell when you’re acting and other people have no idea, but deep down there will always be that tiny bit of wounded soul aching to be heard and seen. i can’t stand people who “wear their masks” all the time. honestly, you’d be so much happier just being yourself. which brings me to my second point:
the reason i LOVE theatre so much is because i know i can be completely and utterly myself around them. i don’t have to act. ever. i don’t know what i’m going to do with myself for the next month until school ends. how will i cope without the de-stressing magic of rehearsal? i think i might die.
