what’s great about…
here’s what i love about the english language: there’s a word for EVERYTHING.
dilatory: (adj) intending to cause delay
verisimilitude: (n) the appearance of being real
patina: (n) an acquired change in the appearance of a surface
these are just a few of my favorite words. you can look in the dictionary and find a word that perfectly summarizes exactly what you want to say. no need to string together “you were trying to make me late on purpose!” instead you can say “you were being dilatory!”
another useful tool for expressing yourself are song lyrics. when in doubt of my facebook status, i always look up lyrics. when you come home from school and you’ve had a truly abysmal day, what better way to vent than to post awesomely depressing song lyrics? i love it that we can express ourselves so succinctly. if you love this too, read 1984 by george orwell. you’ll see why once you’re into it. incredible book; great ending; powerful message. what more can you ask for?
